Family Workshop: Hands On
Sat 19 November 2016, 10:30 – 12:00 GMT
Learn about Alice Channer’s sculptural techniques and create your own futuristic fingers and hands.
Our hands are very important to us and we use them all the time to experience the world around us. For artists, their hands are crucial – they need them to make things with!
Alice Channer has been stretching and bending her finger using hi-tech computer processes – then getting these new versions made in metal. Suspended in the gallery they still look like fingers – but there’s something not quite human about them now.
Inspired by Alice’s processes, we’ll have our very own production line in the gallery for you to make sculptures from your hand. We’ll make simple alginate moulds of your fingers and then produce plaster replicas to take home.
Our family workshops are for children aged 5–11 and advance booking is essential. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Please note unfortunately the nature of this workshop means it is not suitable for children with sensitive skin.
