Event description

Description

Richard Grainger is well known as the man responsible for transforming the medieval townscape of Newcastle into one of Britain’s finest city centres in the 19th century. But did you know that Grainger moved to Elswick in 1839 with the intention of turning this rural area into a new town with homes, factories, roads, railways and even a zoo?

The story of Richard Grainger and his grand plans for Elswick is just one of the subjects of this series of new short films about the people of the West End of Newcastle to be shown at this free event at Cruddas Park Library.

This event is organised by St James Heritage & Environment Group with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. There is no need to book a place - just pop into Cruddas Park Library!
