Event description

Description

In 1836 newspapers across Britain reported a “Grand Fancy Ball” held at The Portico Library. Now all you fancy people are invited to create and wear your own wild and wonderful costumes to the closing party of the Portico’s current exhibition Fancy Pants from 7pm on Friday 22nd March. There will be a dance performance by House of Ghetto in exhibitor Ruby Kirby’s wearable artworks and a prize for the best dressed guest will be judged and presented by the artists. Drinks will be on sale, and the party will continue downstairs at The Bank Pub from 9pm to 11pm with 20% off all food and drinks for party guests.

The House of Ghetto(HOG) was born out of Manchester's very first House Of Suarez (LGBTQI company) Vogue Ball 2014 (GFTA supported) at Contact Theatre (NPO) and received critical acclaim. HOG a loose collective of creative individuals – a drag queen, a fashionista, and six dancers. An audience favourite, HOG went on to participate in HOS manchester vogue ball 2015 - 2017 reaching over 900 people , Black Gold Arts Festival- (GFTA funded) gave HOG its first paid commission. The exposure from the Festival plus ongoing BGAF producing support has helped The House of Ghetto develop. They have participated in a range of public and private events since the house was founded and had event bookings throughout 2017 including a vogue workshop at The National Theatre in August 2017.
