Fantastic! is an event for fans, fandom scholars, and the objects of fandom.

About this Event

We have speakers talking about fandom and sport, fan creativity, online fan communities, and more, PLUS there will a film screening of the ultimate fan film, Velvet Goldmine.

Your ticket gives you access to both days of the conference, the film screening on Thursday evening, plus refreshments. Lunch is also provided on the Friday.

Dr Kirsty Sedgman on how we measure cultural value for theatre audiences

Dr Ysabel Gerrard social media content moderation in fandom.

Panelists include:

Safiyyah Syeed - the Hijabi Boxer from Bradford on building an online fanbase through instagram and youtube

Abby Tomlinson - creator of the Miliverse!

Dr Ben Literland - talking about fandom and morality with regards to death match wrestling.

Dr Ludi Price talking about how fans share information with each other

Daniel Skentelbery on how cosplay can help us navigate gendered & queer identities

Eve Moriarty on fanfiction as a literary genre and ownership of core texts

PLUS:

Film screenings of the BAFTA award winning My Loneliness is Killing Me, and artist Olivia Sparrow's A Teenage Melodrama In Four Parts: A short film about my teenage years as a mentally ill Manic Street Preachers fan.

A zine workshop led by artist and writer Claire Biddles

VELVET GOLDMINE SCREENING ONLY

This is a ticket that will give you access to just the film screening. A very limited number of these are available. All other tickets include the film screening, so there's no need to book this as well if you have any other type of ticket.

SOLIDARITY TICKETS

A solidarity ticket is exactly the same as a regular ticket, but includes an additional donation of £15. This allows us to provide 1 additional free place to someone who might otherwise not be able to come due to a lack of funds.
