Event description

Description

St Paul's Cathedral is a fantastic feat of architecture and this summer lift the lid and experience the wonder beneath our dome. These family workshops form part of our Fantastic Feats program which also includes a new exhibitition for visitors - The Great Restoration of the 1920s, organ concerts, late openings and inspiring sermons of human endeavour.

Go back in time to the 1920s and meet Sir Mervyn Macartney, the Surveyor to the Fabric of St Paul’s Cathedral. Join him on an engaging and interactive tour of the building (including some secret spaces!) and hear all about the work done to strengthen the Cathedral’s structure. Marvel at the maths, and delight in the engineering and design of this amazing place, before getting the chance to imagine and create your own cathedral in a hands-on workshop.

The Fantastic Feats family workshops last 90 minutes and will take place on:

Wednesday 24 July 2019 at 10.30am and 1pm
Thursday 25 July 2019 at 10.30am and 1pm
Friday 26 July 2019 at 10.30am and 1pm
Monday 29 July 2019 at 10.30am and 1pm
Tuesday 30 July 2019 at 10.30am and 1pm

Up to three children can join a workshop for free when accompanied by an adult.

The Fantastic Feats family workshops are best suited to children aged 7+

Children aged under two do not need a booked workshop place.

The tour visits the Cathedral's Triforium and there are 141 steps to reach this with no lift access available at present. Within the Triforium, the tour route includes up to a further 10 short flights of stairs (each no more than 10 steps).

A valid admission ticket is also required for anyone aged 6 and over (0-5yrs receive free admission) to visit on the day of a workshop. These are sold separately and don't sell out so we recommend you book your workshop places here first and then discounted advance admission tickets from our website - www.stpauls.co.uk/tickets. You can actually opt to order an Annual Pass for the same price as a day admission ticket meaning you can return for future family activities without paying for admission again.
