Far Kingdom Scrub Bash with Butterfly Conservation

By Chiltern Rangers CIC

Overview

Come and join us for a fiery scrub cut to help the Duke of Burgundy Butterfly & other rare species at this special site.

Lead Ranger: Paul Stack Mobile: 07740 743 489

Transport & Address:

We will be working at Far Kingdom private nature reserve. To get there either:

Text Paul and ask for a lift from our depot - we will be leaving at 9am or

Meet Nick Bowles from Butterfly Conservation at Princes Risborough Golf Club by 10am latest. Please turn left when you enter the golf club, head to the end of the car park and turn right parking at the far end of the car park leaving spaces close to the clubhouse for members.

At 10am, we will walk across the golf course, cross the railway at the now traffic lighted level crossing and go to the Far Kingdom. Please take care on the journey over.

We will then aim to walk back to the golf club at 14:45.

Please can we ask everyone to arrive on time to ensure you do not miss the health & safety and task briefing. If you are late and the session has already started, you may not be able to join. Thank you.

You don't need to print off your Eventbrite ticket!

The Task:

A scrub bash of overly large trees and bushes to create a network of sheltered sunny spots for the Duke with a warming fire to burn the arisings up. Plus tree popping the middle of these glades and paths to stop the scrub coming back in these parts.

Timings (please note these timings are approximate):

9:00 Chiltern Rangers Team & Volunteers leave the Depot

10.00: Volunteers all arrived at Risborough Golf Club and walk to site with Nick.

10.15: Work begins

11.30: Tea & coffee break

13.00: Lunch - please bring your own

14:45: Risborough Golf Club team walk back whilst the Chiltern Rangers Team & Volunteers ensure the fire is left safe.

What to Bring:

Please bring your gloves (we will have spares) and dress for the weather and the task.

Long trousers ans safety glasses are advisable as there is thorny vegetation. We also recommend wearing steel toe capped or sturdy boots rather than trainers. If it's been raining wear your wellies!

Wear layers that you can remove if you get hot whilst working. Bring a waterproof as most of our sites have no shelter from the rain.

Please bring plenty of fluids and a packed lunch. We will bring a tea kit and biscuits.

Please note:

Biscuits are served at all Chiltern Rangers sessions. Please advise if you have an allergy.

Sometimes there is a need for us to use power tools that can be noisy but we try to go electric as much as we can!
