Event description
Covid-managed Farcycles Rides on a Saturday morning from the Market Place in Faringdon.

About this event

With the careful relaxing of some of the lockdown measures from the Government and also following the British Cycling guidance on Group Rides, we are now in a position to extend our group rides to include more people out on the road together. However, these rides need to remain well organised with respect to social distancing and tracking any Covid cases.

In order to ensure we are able to manage groups of no more than EIGHT riders, record who is in those groups and schedule when they are to leave the Market Place we will continue to use the Eventbrite ticketing system.

All participants are asked to read the 'Managed Farcycles Group Rides' document before joining the ride.

***May 17th - Summary of Changes***

The Saturday morning rides will be divided into three time slots: one for Red, a Blue and Green slot, and one for Pinks.

There will be:

  • an 8.30am assembly time for the Pinks
  • an 8.45am for the Reds, and
  • 9.00am for the Blues and for the Greens

Other points:

  • Maintain social distancing in the Market Place and at coffee stops.
  • Groups will be able to leave the Market Place within five minutes, so be on time, please!
  • Maximum number of tickets per time slot up from 6 to 30 to allow for enough riders for any ride route, however....
  • ....all rides are advised that the maximum number of cyclists in a group on the road is 8 which is in line with general cycling rules.
  • As was the case, pre Covid, talk to your fellow ride route colour members to determine whose speed is best for you when choosing your group of up to 8.
  • If anyone reports testing positive for Covid, Farcycles will, retrospectively, establish the other members of the group involved.

Will there still be Blue, Red and Pink rides?

Yes. The aim will be to still have our favoured route colour rides but break the groups down into riders of EIGHT people.

However, we are able to meet in groups (of up to 30) in the Market Place whilst respecting Social Distancing and then decide who would like to ride with whom in groups of up to eight.

There is a new group: the Green Ride!

The new Green Ride is a short, 10 miles or so, gently paced ride for those coming back to riding, or starting to ride a bike, and are enjoying developing their confidence. These rides will be lead by a dedicated a Farcycles Ride Leader.

Will we meet in the Market Place together?

Yes and no. As we are now able to meet outside in groups of up to 30. The Red, Pink, Blue and Green riders are all able to meet in the same place without forming a large group as their assembly and start times are now staggered for each ride route.

How will the coloured groups be organised?

As most of you will have now experienced, groups of eight ( previously six) are organised by their general average speed. This worked well using Eventbrite but did, however, applied as we formed our groups BEFORE Covid so, with this in mind, we have decided to organise our groups of up to eight when we meet up in the Market Place.

How will Track and Trace work?

This is not perfect but, if there are any reported cases of Covid amongst our riders, we will then trace the members of their group and follow the necessary procedures in line with Government advice.

Farcycles 'No Drop' Guideline

Regardless of group average speeds, we encourage all groups to stay together for as much of the ride as possible. If faster riders wish to go off the front for sections of the route, communicate with your group and wait for them to catch up further down the road.

We ask ALL groups not to drop individual riders leaving them on their own without their agreement. If the group breaks up creating smaller groups, this is acceptable but please avoid dropping individuals.

Ride Speeds

The pace will be set and managed by the Ride Leader and will accommodate everyone.

Blues, typically, ride at anything from 11mph to 15mph average. This may result in more than one group forming.

These rides are generally in the 14.5mph to 16.5mph range. There is often a 'slower' group and a 'faster' group within this range. We invite you to talk to your fellow Red riders before you start to see which one is best for you.

These rides are generally in the 15mph to 20mph range. There is often a 'slower' group and a 'faster' group within this range. We invite you to talk to your fellow Pink riders before you start to see if you are comfortable with your group of choice.

As mentioned above, Farcycles riders don't like seeing people dropped and we all like to help each other. If the pace is a little too high for you, let your Farcycles friends know.
