Faringdon Cycle Training
Event Information
About this event
Farcycles is a community cycling charity which runs free cycle teaching for children and adults. Training for beginners and improvers is carried out at the state-of-the-art Faringdon Cycle Park which opened in July 2019. There is a rubberised area for beginners and tarmac roads for improvers and for teaching road safety. The area links to a traffic-free 1km path, and from there to quiet residential roads, as cycling ability progresses. Trainers leading the sessions have undergone appropriate training and are DBS-checked.
These courses are suitable for all ages, from 2 years old and up.
**LOCATION**
Please note the location of the Faringdon Cycle Park VERY carefully if you are travelling to the park for the first time!
The Cycle Park can ONLY BE ACCESSED, IF COMING BY CAR, from the 'Folly Sports Park' which, itself, can only be accessed along Stanford Road from London Street.
The Cycle Park is situated beyond the rugby pitches and is difficult to see.
This map should help you locate it.
Do not try to use the post code in your car's Sat Nav. This is highly likely to take you to the wrong location.

Covid Safety Precautions
****IMPORTANT MESSAGE****
As we all begin to come out of lockdown and social distancing is relaxed, we are able to offer cycling training again but in a slightly modified format. This involves limiting numbers and teaching within distinct "Bubble" groups. Details are outlined in the section below.
In the lead-up to restarting cycle training, we have completed a Risk Assessment for our sessions and details of this assessment can be supplied on request. In order to safely comply with all government and British Cycling guidelines for social distancing and cycling teaching in groups, we ask all parents and children to follow our simple rules which can be found here.
Cycling Session Ticket Bubble Types
Which Bubble is right for my child?
****UPDATED FOR GROUP SIZE AUDUST 10TH 2020****
For each hour training session, there will be two groups of up to TWELVE people. Each group will consist of six pairs of one child and one parent. Each parent is expected to assist their child if and when necessary as the instructor provides guidance from a safe distance.
We ask you to book a ticket for your child, depending upon their ability, into one of our two teaching bubbles.
Don't worry if you are unsure if your child is confident enough to be pedalling yet. We have enough help on hand to support them once we assess them on arrival.
Balance Bubble
This group of three children (and three parents) is for children starting out who cannot ride and will be learning on the rubberised area using the balance bikes provided. You are welcome to bring your own balance bike if you have one. All equipment will be sanitised in line with our procedures.
Pedalling Bubble
This is also a group of three children (and three parents) and is for children who wish to transition from having learned how to balance and wish to practise their new skill and improve their balance on a bike with pedals under guidance from an instructor. We expect participants to bring their own bikes for this bubble, however, some bikes are available for children to use at the Park.
Stabilisers
If your child is using Stabilisers, they maybe ready to transition to pedals. However, Stabilisers do not promote and encourage balance which must come first. It is very common for children who have had Stabilisers removed prior to a lesson to use a balance bike to learn balancing as Stabilisers do not encourage balance. If your child has Stabilisers but has never confidently master a balance bike. we recommend booking into the Balance Bubble. We can move them to the Pedal group during the lesson, if needed.
