Event description

Description

Following research, HE has more information on the status of traditional farm buildings and in some areas there are high levels of redundancy, dereliction and loss. We have updated our guidance to allow new uses and conversion for traditional farm buildings to be considered where appropriate, along with our maintenance guidance. In order to be effective we would like ensure that information about the guidance and its application becomes widely known and applied. National Parks are some of our most special areas in the country and the issues can sometimes be more acute here. Our key target audience is therefore conservation officers/local planners, but also practitioners (conservation architects etc.) that are involved in the planning process. We will also welcome National Park Planning Committee members as those that make decisions about these buildings.

This course supports the October 2017 publication of a series of advice notes about farm buildings:
1. The Adaptive Reuse of Traditional Farm Buildings (Historic England Advice Note summarising the policy issues)
2. Adapting Traditional Farm Buildings (good practice guide)
3. The Maintenance and Repair of Traditional Farm Buildings (good practice guide)

All guidance notes are available at https://historicengland.org.uk/advice/caring-for-heritage/rural-heritage/farm-buildings/
