Event description

Description

The RIBA South/South East region are looking to invite 15 (or more) small to mid size/commercial local practices with experience in key areas such as Conservation Projects, Green Projects, New/Self Build and Small Domestic Projects, to take part in Farnham Design Day, taking place on Saturday 22nd September 2018 – 10.30am – 3pm.

Each practice would have an exhibition space when they can erect a small stand with tables and chairs to enable them to meet the public and demonstrate their knowledge and experience of the sector.

The objective is to give members of the public a complete overview of exactly what and how an architect can help with building work, such as extensions and renovations. There is a great deal that is not known to the public and this drop in day would provide anybody who is considering building work with the knowledge and possible contacts of a local practice who could help.

Just pop along to the Maltings on Saturday 22nd September, any time from 10am to 3pm – the Design Day is completely free and very informal. Architects and other design specialists will be there to talk through your ideas for your home and show you examples of their completed building projects.

You should come away from the Design Day with a good idea of what you could do for the budget that you have in mind, plus contact details of architects and information about how they could work for you.

Who does the Farnham Design Day aim to attract?
People who are seriously thinking about their building needs and desires are likely to be particularly interested in the Design Day. And if you’ve ever looked at your home and thought ‘I wonder how difficult/expensive/possible it would be to …’, the Design Day is an ideal opportunity to chat through your ideas with architects.

You’ll get the most out of the Design Day if you’re eager to explore options – through talking to the architects about your home and through looking at their completed work with an eye for ideas for your own project.

Can you explain what the RIBA is and why it is important to be involved?
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) champions better buildings, communities and the environment through architecture and its members. The RIBA is the membership organisation for architects, which provides standards, training and support for members. Choosing an accredited RIBA Chartered Practice will give you peace of mind: they comply with strict criteria which cover insurance, health and safety and quality management.

What is the point of employing an architect for a domestic building project?
How much or how little you commission your architect to do is up to you. However small your project and whether you’re building a new building or adapting an existing one, your architect is trained to apply impartial and creative thinking. They will help you to achieve what you want for your project and, if you choose can guide you every step of the way through the design and construction process. They can handle the paperwork and keep the work on track.

Architects can come up with a design to increase your building’s value and propose ways to reduce costs. As well as creativity, they provide value for money. For more information, visit www.architecture.com – and come along to Farnham Design Day to meet architects and find out for yourself.

Testimonials
I just wanted to add, for those that don't know me, that I took part in each of the last 3 events whilst I lived and worked in Henley, and it was the most enjoyable, successful and lucrative bit of marketing that I have ever done. In fact, I am just starting work for a Henley resident who I met at the event 2 years ago, and even though they know I have moved away, they are still keen to work with me! Alison Pressley, AP Architects Ltd. Exhibited at Henley Design Day.

I found the Design Day extremely helpful last year. It helped me to identify an architect who I felt I could work with to design my dream kitchen and also gave me loads of useful ideas - and all for free! Michelle Clay. Attended Henley Design Day

Just a big thank you for setting up the show in Henley. We thought it was very good and appreciated the better position in the hall. Lots of follow ups for us. Opinder Liddar, LAPD Architects. Exhibited at Henley Design Day.

We are delighted to be sponsored by The Myers Touch.
