With growing awareness around the environmental impact that the Fashion & Textiles industry is having on the world, consumers are challenging industry to make smarter choices and strategically address the issues at hand. Our speakers exemplify how to turn these challenges into creative opportunities.

Our sustainable practice speakers are:

Katie Jones, Katie Jones 13:00 – 14:00:

Katie Jones turns factory seconds, textile waste and designer surplus into new colourful, textured knitwear. Her approach celebrates hand craftsmanship, with all pieces made in her London studio. Katie will talk about her journey and creating a brand with upcycling at its heart.

Deborah Luffman, Finisterre 14:00 – 15:00:

Finisterre creates functional and sustainable product for sea-lovers. Deborah is head of product, including design, development, sourcing and buying. She will be unravelling the supply chain and discussing how to engage with the modern conscious consumer.

Graham Storrie, Texology 15:00 – 16:00

Graham has worked in the textiles industry since 1978. Now a director at Texology, an independent UK consultancy, he works with global brands such as Inditex (owner of Zara) and Adidas. Previously Graham was head of global fabric management at Esprit and head of fabric and technology for M&S. Graham will talk about his role in textile sustainability and the development of environmental standards for the textile sector.

Please note that talks will last for approx 45 minutes with a short Q&A afterwards and 5 minute comfort break before the next speaker starts.

The event will be followed by light refreshments served outside the lecture theatre on level 3, Parkside.
