About this Event

Join us on Thursday 21st of May as we screen a selection of films by Fateme Ahmadi, an award-winning writer-director from Iran, who is currently based in London.

We will be screening three of Fateme’s incredible films, live on youtube, followed by a discussion between Fateme and Rhianna Dhillon, the film critic on BBC6 Music’s Breakfast Show with Lauren Laverne. We are particularly delighted to be hosting Fateme for the second event in this year’s ‘Emerging Filmmaker Showcase’ series, as she used to live in Brent, the home of Other Cinemas. This film screening will be the sixth in our programme of events as part of Brent’s Borough of Culture 2020 programme.

Fateme Ahmadi’s films will play live, back to back, at 6pm on Thursday 21st May on this link: https://youtu.be/jtsHa0Shwzw

The total duration of the films will be 48 minutes.

The Q&A will then be taking place soon after on our Facebook page at around 7pm: https://www.facebook.com/0thercinemas

We will be screening these three short films by Fateme Ahmadi :

Chandra (2015) 15 mins

Other Cinema is a project set up to share the films and stories of non-white people in spaces and ways which aren’t alienating to these communities. We focus on films and documentaries by established non-white filmmakers and invite them to share their journeys, struggles and successes in the field. Other Cinemas also champions new and emerging non-white filmmakers in the hopes of building spaces and connections which are sustaining to these filmmakers who often struggle in a sector which is hostile to them. Other Cinemas was established by Turab Shah and Arwa Aburawa, two local filmmakers who wanted to make the world of film more accessible to non-white communities.
