About the session: How might we make nutritious food safe and accessible to all?
Around the world there are still so many disparities in food accessibility: some places throw away fruit & vegetables that aren't good-looking enough for supermarkets, yet other people are struggling to obtain healthy and nutritious food on a daily basis. Launching our first project in the form of an open-call, FDN has chosen to focus on one of the five action tracks of the UN's Food Systems Summit (https://www.un.org/en/food-systems-summit/action-tracks): "Ensure access to safe & nutritious food for all". From charities working on food distribution to more vulnerable communities & homeless people, as well as providing healthy meals in schools and hospitals, it's a matter of inclusion but also education. Let's have a look at what some people have decided to do in order to combat this issue.
Speakers:
Khin Tye, Volunteer Manager at Made in Hackney (@madeinhackney)
Khin has finally found a happy melding in Made in Hackney of her passion for food, well-being and making a positive difference in healthy communities and a healthy planet.
Some of Made in Hackney's missions are to teach communities the skills to grow, cook, preserve and compost food that’s good for the health of people and the planet, as well as provide training and an affordable kitchen space to support ethical food entrepreneurship.
Caroline Katsiroubas, Director of Marketing and Community Relations at Freight Farms (@freightfarms)
Freight Farms believe that healthy food is a right, not a luxury. For this reason, they are dedicated to making fresh food accessible to anyone, anywhere, any time with a complete platform of products and services – the Greenery, farmhand®, and Client Services - to empower their global community of partners.
