Ann Gravells and Hilary Read are pleased to announce their first summer full day conference/CPD event aimed at practitioners, teachers, trainers, assessors and quality assurers in the further education (FE) and skills sector.

The atmosphere will be informal and friendly and will include key speakers, exhibits and workshops. Places are limited due to the size of the venue.

Topics for discussion include: Apprenticeships, Functional Skills, The use of technology, Technical qualifications, British Values, Prevent Duty, Professional Standards, The Sainsbury Report, Post 16 Skills Plan & more. Please see the programme below.

All those attending will receive a free, signed copy of Hilary and Ann’s book: The best vocational trainer’s guide (value £35). There will also be a free raffle and lots of other freebies.

Spaces are limited - please book early. The price has been kept low to make the event accessible to all. Please e-mail ann@anngravells.com if you would rather pay via invoice or PayPal than use EventBrite.


Delegates will have the opportunity to:

  • gain information regarding changes (from key speakers and as part of informal discussion groups) which are taking place in the FE and skills sector

  • put questions to a panel of friendly experts

  • take part in a workshop by Ann and Hilary

  • network with others and meet like minded people

  • talk to staff from various exhibitors e.g. text book publishers, awarding organisations and professional associations

  • drink as many soft drinks (hot and cold) as you wish, eat lots of biscuits, sweets and fruit (if you have the urge), have a nice buffet lunch (veggie option included), and have wifi access - all included in the price

Jonathan White, author of Digital Literacy Skills, and librarian at the University of Derby - Using free/low cost technologies for teaching and learning, and embracing the principles of digital literacy

Key speakers:

Name TBC, Speaker from Ofqual - What Ofqual is about, and recent changes and developments such as Functional Skills

David Russell, CEO The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) - Supporting practitioners with aspects such as the Professional Standards, Prevent Duty, British Values and The Post 16 Skills Plan

Questions to the panel of speakers, plus Ann and Hilary (these can be e-mailed in advance if you wish)

What are the issues facing you as a practitioner? How to embrace change within your practice regarding your issues and the following topics:

  • ​The changing role of the trainer/assessor in apprenticeships

  • The Sainsbury Report, the Post 16 Skills Plan and Technical qualifications

  • The RQF and possible changes to teacher training qualifications

  • Maintaining CPD for free including the use of technology

Please note:

  • If, for any reason, you cannot attend the conference after making your booking, we will be happy for you to transfer your ticket to someone else. Unfortunately, refunds are not offered.

  • If you wish to pay via invoice rather than EventBrite - please e-mail ann@anngravells.com. Invoices can be paid by cheque, BACS transfer or PayPal but must be paid prior to the event, and within 14 days of issue (whichever is the soonest).

  • Ann Gravells Ltd is not registered for VAT, therefore the ticket price is exempt.

  • Parking is available close by at many of the Leeds city centre car parks, for example, the Merrion Centre,The Light, and St John's. Disabled parking is at the front of the centre, a pass must be obtained from the centre. All rooms in the venue are on the ground floor.

  • The centre is about 10-15 minutes walk from Leeds train station and close to bus stops. It's next to a church at the end of a no through road. It's not far from the original and beautiful St James Hospital building.

  • A veggie option will automatically be included as part of the buffet, however, please e-mail us if you have a particular dietary requirement.

  • There are many hotels in Leeds city centre if you wish to stay over.
