FEAD Biennial Conference - Dynamic Potential of a Circular Economy
Event Information
Description
The FEAD Biennial Conference is the Conference of the European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services (FEAD).
This year it is being held in co-operation with the UK trade association for the waste and resource management sector, the Environmental Services Association (ESA).
FEAD, representing the private sector waste and resource management industry, will play a key role in driving the circular economy in Europe. FEAD members are active in all steps of the value chain providing the raw materials that Europe’s industries need.
The overarching theme of the conference, the "Dynamic Potential of a Circular Economy", will bring together some great speakers from across Europe, and from every part of the circular economy.
The conference will be opened by an introductory speech by FEAD President Mr.David Palmer-Jones.
*** PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME SPEAKERS MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE ***
Session One
Dynamic Measures for a Circular Economy
Our first session will set out the policy measures proposed at EU level and in the UK to help implement a more circular economy.
It will feature DG Environment’s Green Economy Director, a speaker from the FEAD Administrative Council and a representative from the newly elected UK Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
Session Two
Research, Innovation and Investment in a Circular Economy
Research, innovation and investment are key to achieving sustainable growth in a resource efficient and environmentally sound way. The private waste and resource management sector is one of the leaders in innovation, and is expected to provide huge capital investment from now until 2020 to properly implement the waste acquis.
Alongside a more stable regulatory framework for the future, how can the structural funds and the co-financing of projects by the EIB contribute to setting up modern waste and resource management infrastructure and achieving EU targets?
Speakers from business, the European Commission (DG Research and Innovation, DG Regional Policy) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) will be represented in our second session.
Session Three
The Circular Economy in Action
Our last session will be dedicated to the practical measures already being taken by some leading manufacturing, and waste and resource management companies, to apply circular economy principles in their operations and so reap the economic and environmental rewards.
- How to create a green dynamic as engine for growth and jobs?
- How to strengthen recyclability in product design?
- How to intensify the dialogue and partnerships between the waste and resource industry and designers and manufacturers?
These and many other questions will be raised and discussed at what promises to be a most interesting day assessing the dynamic potential of a circular economy.
This one day conference will provide an excellent platform for valuable exchanges between speakers from business, academia, NGOs, the EU Institutions and the EIB.
Hosted at the Royal College of Surgeons, the conference provides a fantastic networking opportunity for anyone working in the field of Resource Management and the Circular Economy across Europe.
