Description

Fatal Attraction - A Surge in Visitors

Surgeons are renowned for their precision in an operating theatre, but what role does precision play for a visitor attraction?

For the Surgeons’ Hall Museums in Edinburgh, attention to the detail of their visitors has helped them to vastly increase the number of visits to the venue and positive reviews over the past decade. So much so, that the museum grew from a venue that welcomed over 14,000 visitors a year to one that now welcomes over 75,000.

At this first Wednesday, you will learn:

• The power of data and digital to inform audience development and marketing strategy
• The influence of marketing collateral on raising awareness of the museum
• The value of online word of mouth via social media and Trip Advisor in generating new visits

And for something a little different...

This First Wednesday will also include a tour of the Surgeons' Hall Museums.

About the Speaker:
David McLeod is currently a Marketing Executive at Historic Environment Scotland, having previously worked for Surgeons' Hall Museums for over 9 years. Whilst at Surgeons' Hall, David developed the museum's marketing and social media. He is a founding member of the Scottish Heritage Social Media Group, and holds the post of Digital Officer on the Scottish Museums Federation Committee.

ABOUT FIRST WEDNESDAYS

Some of the most stimulating sessions take place when there’s the opportunity to step away from the pressure of a busy job, get together with colleagues and share learning.

That’s why we host ‘First Wednesdays’ – a series of topical, bite-sized information sessions taking place on the first Wednesday of each month.

They are an open invitation each month for our Partners and industry colleagues to regularly drop in our offices to keep up to date with ideas and examples of useful practice we’ve gathered from across the country.

It might be as simple as hearing how other people have successfully tackled the same challenges you face building profitable customer relationships and wider public engagement, or learning about the raft of new tools or approaches emerging daily.

Our goal is to inspire fresh thinking, expand current networks and focus on the Most Important Thing … to build new audiences and greater engagement.

If you can’t join us in person, why not sign up for a periscope registration? You will be able to tune in remotely so you can still hear from our speakers from wherever you are!
