February Tour: A servant's life

Event description

Uncover the hidden stories of the servants on this new tour of the domestic areas of the house.

See behind the scenes in the rooms of the south east quarter and the domestic ground floor areas of the house and hear the previously untold stories of those that worked here. This is your exclusive opportunity to gain access to the house whilst it's closed for conservation.

Meet outside the Old Coach House shop for the start time of the tour. The tour is mainly indoors, however it is likely to be little warmer than it is outside. Please also wear suitable footwear for uneven surfaces including cobbles.

All on the ground floor however there is the odd step and plenty of uneven surfaces. The tour is led by a guide describing the house stories. Please get in touch if you have any particular needs.

This tour is aimed at adults, however children are welcome.

The tour enters via the East Bridge, South East Courtyard and into the Kitchen. It will then take in the Small Dining Room, Outer Hall, Central Courtyard, Butler’s Pantry, House Keepers Room, returning to the SE Courtyard and exiting over the East Bridge. All other areas of the house will be closed to visitors on tour days as part of the annual winter conservation work. It is only possible to view inside the house as part of this tour on these days.
