Event description

Description

Interested in learning how to improve and maintain soil quality in the urban landscape? This course is perfect for growers at all levels, providing a gateway into urban growing.

During the session we will get to know various soil types, explore their use in our gardens and the environments they can (re)create. We will explore the concept and necessity of soil conservation in the 21st century and its links to (un)sustainable agriculture. We'll also learn how to sample soil quality, and understand the indicators and monitoring processes used to prevent loss of valuable growing space and habitat. Finally, we'll look at ways to preserve soil quality in our urban green and growing spaces.

Trainer - Benjamin Bishop

Benjamin is a keen forager, grower and citizen science facilitator. He has a passion for outdoor learning, directly related to the urban landscape. He is passionate to address the 21st century divorce between the citizens and their natural and wild landscapes. Food is vital to every individual whether they are growers or not. Providing a platform for this reconnection between the urban and natural is something Ben drives in everyday life.

If you have any mobility requirements, please contact capitalgrowth@sustainweb.org before booking to discuss your particular needs.
