How can photographs connect families across borders?

About this Event

John Ashton, archivist at Bradford Museums Photo Archive, presents a show-and-tell session on the Belle Vue Photographic Studio, as featured in the recent BBC documentary Hidden History: The Lost Portraits of Bradford.

Based in Manningham, at the heart of Bradford’s immigrant population in the 1960s and 70s, the studio became a hotspot for families documenting their new lives. Belle Vue portraits were sent to relatives in Ukraine, Latvia, Poland, the Caribbean, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.

John will offer insights and share objects and photographs salvaged when the studio closed its doors in 1975.

Part of our Feed Your Mind series of talks funded by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art.
