Event description
Join us for a virtual tour of the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source and an interactive workshop about materials, stress and strain

About this Event

What happens when materials deform? What’s going on at the atomic level? At the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, we use beams of neutrons to probe stresses and strains deep within engineering components, from airplane wings to medical implants. This helps us to understand how they behave in everyday use.

After a virtual tour of the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, we’ll explore what happens when materials deform, with the chance for students to learn about an experiment they can do themselves involving non-Newtonian fluids!

The event is suitable for A-Level students and those aged over 16, and will last for around 60 minutes. It will take place via Zoom - we will send details of how to join to all those who register.

If you are a teacher and would like to arrange a live Q&A with your class after the talk, please email visitral@stfc.ac.uk.

If you're not able to join the webinar live, but would like a recording of it, please register and select the option to receive the recording on the order form. If you are a school and cannot use Zoom, please let us know on the registration form and we will do our best to accommodate you via another platform.
