Event description

Description

Join us at our 2017 Forest Schoo & Outdoor Practitioners Networking Day!

Hosted by OutLET: Play Resource, run in partnership with FEI Lanarkshire and both North and South Lanarkshire Ranger Services - we invite Forest School & Outdoor learning practitioners to share skills and knowledge with colleagues, supporting the outdoor community that we all love.

Four local practitioners will be running skill share workshops - these are informal and you can drop in and out as you please.

Dancing with Trees - Allison Galbraith, Eco-Storyteller & Author
Allison is well known for her engaging storytelling and skill-sharing training sessions, throughout the community gardens, forests, woodlands and parks of the Uk.

Allison will show you how to learn a story and tell it with ease and confidence in less than an hour. Taking stories from her new book, Dancing With Trees, Eco-Tales From the British Isles - The History Press, 2017 (co-author Alette Willis) she will share inspiring nature storytelling methods - story-sticks, story-stones, story-cookies - to help grow your own collection of eco-tale activities. Allison will sign copies of her book for anyone wishing to purchase one - £9.99, on the day. More information at :www.restoryingtheearth.com

Using Photography to encourage exploration & Discovery - Scott Jones - Forest School Leader & Photographer
Scott graduated as a biologist in 1984 which was the precursor to a very varied career path
that also provided him with a platform for his landscape and environmental photography
business which he launched in 2002. Scott qualified as a Level 3 Forest School Leader in
2008. Over the past 12 years, he has provided photographic opportunities to young adults
and children using woodlands and other outdoor spaces as a source of subjects, either as
short-term photography projects or as part of longer term forest school programmes.

This workshop will mainly focus on sharing ideas on how photography can be used at Forest
School to encourage exploration and discovery, and develop participant’s creativity. The
workshop will also examine some basic technical aspects of photography which will provide
each participant with a better understanding of how to achieve a successful image more
readily and be able to pass on that understanding to future clients.

Greenwood Work - Mike Brady - South Lanarkshire Ranger Service
A skulk of foxes or a garden gnome? – great for new and experienced whittlers.

We will have a tool station to allow you to practice your basic tool skills as well as try new things.

Redlees Department Store?! - Susan McNeish - South Lanarkshire Ranger Service
Join Susan, the Countryside Ranger for Redlees, on a stroll through the aisles of the forest food hall, woodland women’s wear, skincare, haberdashery, and stationery departments. What can Nature’s bounty supply? It’s all there, all we need to do is look and learn. And yes, OK we’ll make some natural cordage too, and perhaps some jam or fruit tea.

There will also be ample opportunity for you to share any small skills that you wish.

This is a practitioner’s day, though we understand that sometimes childcare can be an issue.

If you are unable to attend without your children, then please ensure you add their details to your registration form - You maintain responsibility for your child throughout the event.

There are only 10 children's tickets for the event - so I would urge you to only book for your children if this is your only childcare option.

Thank you for your interest in our 2017 Practitioner Networking Day and we look forward to seeing you there.
