About this Event

These #FFD events are designed to empower everyone financially, inspire connection between ambitious women and celebrate female leaders who are breaking the mould.

Our mission at Finimize is to empower more people to invest.

In 2019 the 'Female Financial Dialogue' event was hosted by the Community in 15 cities around the world. This year we're making history... thousands of Finimizers will be celebrating 'Women's History Month' together in 48 hours across the world.

Using the global perspective from our Community, we’ll discuss “women’s money history” and our “relationship with money” in order to equip more people with the right tools and information to make more informed financial decisions for the future.

What We'll Talk about:

  • Diversity on corporate boards & board sub-committees and their impact on company operations and performance
  • Gender pay gap in Australia and its consequences to women's economic security
  • How Australia stacks up in 'gender-equality' regime
  • Supporting women entrepreneurs and empowering women to invest more

Who You'll hear from:

Alison Preston, Professor of Economics, the University of Western Australia (UWA)

Alison is is an applied micro-economist whose research expertise lies in gendered aspects of labour markets, employment and economic security. Prior to joining UWA she was Professor of Economics and founding member and co-Director of the Women in Social & Economic Research (WiSER) cluster at Curtin University. She remains affiliated to WiSER and is a member of the Australian Work+Family Policy Roundtable research network.

Grace Mugabe, CEO & Founding Director, Financially Empowered

Hailing from a corporate background including a senior Accounting role with Rio Tinto, Grace has always had a passion for financial literacy. She started Financially Empowered to provide practical and comprehensive financial education that is affordable and accessible for women and the greater community. Grace is a fellow of the Leadership WA Rising Leaders Program. In Sept 2017, Grace was named one of three finalists in the United Nations Association of Australia (WA) Excellence in Gender Equity Promotion Award. She is also the ambassador for Behind the Brands, a hub for female entrepreneurs in Western Australia.

Dr. Sandy Chong, Founder, Verity Consulting & President, United Nations Association of Australia (UNAA) WA

A Harvard alumnus and founder of Verity Consulting, Sandy is the winner of 2017 US Stevie Awards for Women in Business; 2015 Singapore Management Consultant of the Year & 2016 WA Multicultural Recognition Awards. An accomplished researcher and leading strategist with 15 years’ international track record, she is known to devise sustainable strategies for client’s pursuit of international growth. An active contributor of the SDGs, Sandy strongly believes that education & leadership are key to economic empowerment for youth & women.

Nigar Sultana, Associate Professor, Faculty of Business and Law, Curtin University

Nigar completed her PhD in 2011. Her research interests are in the areas of auditing, corporate governance, gender diversity, corporate social responsibility and financial reporting. Prior to joining academia full-time, Nigar was an assurance auditor at a chartered accounting firm in Perth. Nigar was awarded the Curtin Business School ‘New Researcher of the Year 2014’ for her research publications, higher degrees by research supervision and grant income.

Angelina Yao, Founder & CEO, Heels and Yield

Angelina is an investment professional with over 9 years of experience as a Portfolio Manager & Chief Investment Officer of a $3 billion private fund and as Research Analyst & Mutual Fund Manager at BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager of over $5.5 trillion. Now, she brings her expertise of the markets, fundamentals of investing, and market psychology to help women at all stages of their lives.
