Event description

Description

Femini Magazine is a platform passionately run by young women, with the aim of showcasing the real-life stories of women from around the world. The platform has published many stories from female activists, successful female entrepreneurs and women wishing to draw attention to cultural struggles which they have faced.

To celebrate two years since Femini Magazine was founded, we're launching Femini Festival '18.

The event will start with a Q&A panel, "Intersectionality: the rest or just the West?", which will unite women from all different walks of life to discuss just how positive feminist efforts of today genuinely are.

We'll talk about whether Western feminism does enough to help women in war-torn, deprived countries and what routes are open to us as a society to engage others in women's rights.

We're delighted to be hosting the following speakers:

Nimco Ali, FGM activist and co-founder of Daughters of Eve.

Ella Whelan, Editor at Spiked Online and author of "Women Women Want: Fun, Freedom and an End To Feminism".

Lucy Moon, YouTuber, blogger and podcast co-host.

Gina Martin, the inspirational woman leading the charge against 'upskirting', which has successfully been taken up by government who are starting to recognise the issue through law,

and finally, Katie Allen, the Senior Programme Funding and
Partnerships Manager at Women for Women International. As part of her role she has travelled to many different programmes in different countries to help women, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, and Iraq.

We will then be hosting a launch party of Issue Four of Femini in print after the event, where there will be live music and a bar available. This will be a great opportunity to meet with other activists and creatives attending.

Film Screenings will include "She Gathers No Moss" by Ellen Pearson and BAFTA-nominated Animation Short Film, "Tough", from Jennifer Zheng.

Doors will open at 18:30 for the panel event and we would appreciate those attending to turn up before 18:50 to avoid interruption.

Limited tickets for the panel event will also include admission to the launch party. Doors will re-open after the panel event at 20:00 for those wishing to only attend the launch party.

Those attending the after-party must be 18+. For anybody who requires special arrangements for access, please feel free to e-mail lydiaibrahim@femini.space.

10% of ticket sales will also be supporting Women for Women International - UK.

You can confirm that you'll be attending on our Femini event page here.
