Feminist Library: Guest speaker - Nelly Ating
Overview
Ffotogallery launched the Feminist Library last October 2024 during Ffoto Cymru, our International Photography Festival.
The Feminist Library is a space to listen, learn and discuss ideas.
We would like to thank the Paul Mellon Centre , whose generous funding has enabled us to continue these sessions.
These events are open to the public, free to attend and will be hosted monthly from July 2025 - January 2026

About:
Nelly Ating is a visual artist who focuses on identity, education, extremism, and migration questions. Her photographic work documenting the rise of Boko Haram terrorism between 2014 and 2020 in Northeast Nigeria shone a light on the intersections of radicalisation and the aftermath of conflict. Ating began exploring mixed media art to address ethical concerns surrounding photography and experiment with self-portraits. Her work has been exhibited locally and internationally. She is a PhD student at Cardiff University and her research examines human rights discourse through archival images.
Session details:
For this session, Nelly Ating will be using the images from the Ffotogallery archive and exploring the performance embedded in them.
The session will be a mix of discussing these ideas and getting some hands-on experience with exploring the archival materials.
