Event description

Description

This is a training event open to PGR students at CHASE institutions

Feminist research is committed to considering, involving and empowering participants, but it’s clear that doing so can be both challenging and emotionally draining. Moreover, while university ethics committees are designed to assess risk to both participants and researchers, there have been an alarming number of cases in which feminist researchers have been subject to harassment in both offline and online spaces. This one day-event provides an opportunity for researchers to discuss the process of building safe, productive spaces for both researchers and participants and asks what can institutions do to best support them. In so doing, this training event seeks to build a community of support, share experiences and document best practice.

Indicative Programme:

- Opening Remarks

- Panel Discussion: Professor Sue Thornham and Dr Helen Thornham reflect on their experiences of conducting ethical feminist research

- Workshop: Building Safe Spaces

- Lunch (provided)

- Group Discussion: What can institutions do to best support feminist researchers and their participants

- Closing Remarks
