The Soul Jazz Collective is a celebration of the hard grooves and funk emerging from the 1960s melting pot of Motown Soul, Blue Note hard bop, and gospel-tinged rhythm and blues. The band brings together some of the most distinctive musicians from the Leeds jazz scene, and in its time has featured Alex Fisher and Ben Lowman (saxes); Jon Scully (trumpet); John Marley (bass) and Steve Hanley and John Settle (drums).
Expect a repertoire of 60s and 70s Blue Note classics from soul jazz maestros Cannonball Adderley, Donald Byrd and Grover Washington, with a dash of Motown by way of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, plus new original material inspired by these luminaries. The result is a timeless, and deeply soulful, mixture."
