Come along to our workshop: Food Fermentation for Health & Social Change on July 16th @ Silo - a radical laboratory for the community; a co-created space where we play with ideas, perspectives and most importantly, our food!

Our evening begins with a good natter on the politics of our health and food, developing into a juicy line up of new and innovative demonstrations by Brighton's leading fermentation artisans, to supercharge your own fermentin' potential and to get your kitchen off to a banging start this year!

In the practical segment of the workshop, we will utilize our new fermentin' toolkit in working with both seasonal and 'intercepted' ingredients, to produce a distinct and quirky product that you can watch ripen to a fine potency on your counter at home.

What to expect:

A fast paced discussion on the importance of fermentation in health empowerment and healing the gut.

A line up of interactive demonstrations that teach you creative ways to ferment, using both dry-salting and brining techniques! Learn variations on kimchi, nut cheese and fermented condiments. Plus a tutorial on ghee - much more than just a fat for cooking! We'll also look at a process for Japanese Nuka Pickles too!


Plus, special guests helping us explore a range of different principles and practices in fermentation - Old Tree Coop will be along to demonstrateon kombucha and kefir and Claire Staroccia, star baker at Silo, will be along with an introduction to sourdough baking!

A practical session where you get to put your new found skills to use in puzzling out an appropriate way to ferment our most recent haul of intercepted veg!

Take a portion home with you!

AlchemyFlow is a food & health education project; a small-batch poducer of fermented foods and massage practice based in Brighton & Hove.

We provide intimate training on traditional food knowledge and techniques to create living, vibrant food; write about food, food politics and health related issues and work with people through bodywork and massage to encourage better awareness of and connection with the body as a vehicle for change in the world.

It is run by Darren Ollerton: a small batch artisan of fermented foods, blogger and bodyworker living in Brighton.
