Event Details

Come along to our first Fermented Foods Workshop of the year on February 4th at Silo, one of the leading workshop experiences in Sussex on fermented foods - a radical laboratory for the community; a co-created space where we play with ideas, perspectives and most importantly, our food!

From easing social anxiety, to helping with allergies, sleep issues, weight problems and overall immunity - fermented foods pack a punch. A biodiverse microbiome means resilient and vital health. At these workshops we teach you how to make highly bioavailable and live foods to support better health and cognition.

Our evenings usually begin with a good natter on the politics of our health and food, developing into a juicy line up of new and innovative demonstrations by Brighton's leading fermentation artisans, to supercharge your fermenting potential and to get your cupboards locked and loaded for the new year!

In the practical segment of the workshop, we will utilize our new fermenting toolkit in working with seasonal ingredients, to produce a distinct and quirky product that you can watch ripen to a fine potency on your counter at home.

What to expect:

A fast paced discussion on the importance of fermentation in health empowerment and healing the gut.

A line up of interactive demonstrations that teach you creative ways to ferment using different techniques - demonstrated by a diverse team of fermentation artisans.

You will learn how to make:
  • Kimchi.
  • Fermented Condiments.
  • Ghee.
  • Japanese Nuka Pickles.
  • Seasonal variations on sauerkraut.
  • Kefir (Milk).
  • Sourdough baking - by Claire Staroccia, star baker at Silo.
  • Kombucha & Water Kefir - by Nick Godshwa, brewer at Old Tree.
A handbook with instructions and recipes to take home!

Take a portion home with you!

A bloody good time!
What other people say:

Amazing workshop the other night. Thank you. Such an interesting, exciting and motivating introduction to intelligent eating. And all so deftly infused with astonishing innuendo. See you soon!

Will - Brighton.

Fermentation liberation: the most mind-blowing empowering stuff to help us self manage our own health, right under our nose! One of the most inspiring workshops I have been to in a long time. Amazing and abundant practical info on how to manage our own gut health and cultivate a healthy microbiome. Fascinating and funny. I particularly enjoyed drawing parallels between Queer philosophy and the behaviour of friendly bacteria! Recommended.

Cat - Brighton.

Not just fermentation....Darren is passionate about social justice and empowering individuals to look after themselves....Workshops and talks will be full of blinding radical statements of rebellion and uprising....Definitely worth it

Alice - Brighton.
