Description

Hello to all our fans, followers and friends yet to make!

AlchemyFlow is back after a long six month interlude of travel, moving and integrating into London life. Brighton will always be our first home though - and to that extent, there's a few workshops coming up in the remainder of this year and a continuing program next year too.

In that sense, please come along to our Fermented Foods Workshop on November 26th, still one of the leading workshop experiences in Sussex on fermented foods - a radical laboratory for the community; a co-created space where we play with ideas, perspectives and most importantly, our food!

From easing social anxiety, to helping with allergies, sleep issues, weight problems and overall immunity - fermented foods pack a punch. A bio-diverse microbiome means resilient and vital health. At these workshops we teach you how to make highly bioavailable and live foods to support better health and cognition.

Unique to AlchemyFlow workshops is how the pragmatic and practical aspect of the workshop are prefixed with a good natter on the politics of our health and food - which develops into a juicy line up of new and innovative demonstrations by Brighton's leading fermentation artisans, to supercharge your fermenting potential and to get your cupboards locked and loaded for the winter!

What to expect on the night:

A platter of fermented foods to share featuring some of the recipes explored throughout the evening and samples of fermented drinks such as kefir and kombucha.

A fast paced discussion on the importance of fermentation in health empowerment and healing the gut.

A line up of interactive demonstrations that teach you creative ways to ferment using different techniques - demonstrated by a team of locally based fermentation artisans.

In this particular workshop you will learn to and have the chance to participate in making:

Kimchi - a complex and fiery Korean pickle.
Skhug - a fermented version of a popular Yemeni 'hot sauce'.
Sauerkraut - a simple ferment of cabbage very popular in Germany.
Nuka Pickles - a microbial sandpit that churns out ripe pickles in under six hours!
Kefir (Milk) - a fermented dairy product.
Kombucha / Water Kefir & Beetroot Kvass - fermented drinks by Nick Godshwa, Brewed from local Botanical Drinks making cooperative, Old Tree.

A handbook featuring a range of different recipes!

Ongoing support through email and phone to troubleshoot any issues in your practice.

Take a portion home with you!

A bloody good time!

A bit about your host:

My name is Darren, I run AlchemyFlow and organise the team who feature as part of our workshop experience. I have been running workshops throughout the UK and in the local community around fermentation and food & health politics for around five years. My passion for fermentation grew out of a personal journey in healing the gut. The small and improvised workshop spaces I created in the beginning have now flourished into popular and engaging programs that are run regularly in Brighton and have been supported and funded by health charities, arts projects and universities throughout the UK. My work is also sponsored by Viridian Nutrition - a large health retailer who has commissioned a series of these workshops throughout the UK. This workshop experience is a combination of pragmatic skills around the fermentation arts and about platforming a new paradigm for health by taking the gut as centre in our philosophy to health and healing.

What other people say:

Darren’s sell-out fermentation talks and workshops generated exceptional feedback and enhanced the reputation of both Viridian Nutrition and our health store stockists. His political-savvy and gut-health expertise made him a hit with independent health store retailers and their audiences across the UK and Ireland.

Cheryl Thallon, founder and MD at Viridian Nutrition.

Amazing workshop the other night. Thank you. Such an interesting, exciting and motivating introduction to intelligent eating. And all so deftly infused with astonishing innuendo. See you soon!

Will - Brighton.

Fermentation liberation: the most mind-blowing empowering stuff to help us self manage our own health, right under our nose! One of the most inspiring workshops I have been to in a long time. Amazing and abundant practical info on how to manage our own gut health and cultivate a healthy microbiome. Fascinating and funny. I particularly enjoyed drawing parallels between Queer philosophy and the behaviour of friendly bacteria! Recommended.

Cat - Brighton.

Not just fermentation....Darren is passionate about social justice and empowering individuals to look after themselves....Workshops and talks will be full of blinding radical statements of rebellion and uprising....Definitely worth it

Alice - Brighton.

I've been for many months wanting to attend to this fermentation workshop and now I have done it I feel so happy and grateful I went! Very friendly and chilled atmosphere, and very knowledgeable team.
Darren is a great orator that helped us understand why fermenting is so good and important for our gut and immune system. I highly recommend you to give it a go and get in the fermenting world, it's great!

Fantastic evening on fermentation on Sunday - thanks Darren and the team at Silo! I was really impressed with the wealth of knowledge and understanding of the symbiosis between our body and bacteria (not to mention taste-buds wowed by your kimchi recipe - I could have kept eating this). Highly recommend to anyone wanting to understand their own health better (starting with the gut) and give fermenting a go

Rebecca - Brighton,
