Welcome to the Ferryhill Railway Guided Tour!

Have you wondered how the train first arrived in Aberdeen and the changes that it brought to the city and its inhabitants? Would you like to learn more about the experience of railway workers and passengers in the age of steam? Do you know about the connection between Ferryhill Station and Royal Deeside?

On this tour you'll visit the location of the earliest railway facility in Aberdeen; an extensive site that features a large Victorian engine shed that is now used to restore locomotives and other rolling stock. You will also be able to stand on our listed, working turntable.

Booking: Tours are free, however pre-booking is required as visitor numbers are restricted.

Tour Information: It is a guided tour and it is important to keep with with the guide at all times as there may be vehicles operating on the site. The tour itself will take about an hour and will be both outside and inside so check the weather forecast beforehand and dress accordingly. A little walking will be required and be aware that you will need to negotiate our railway track in places. It is suitable for adults and children 11+.

Pre-Tour Meeting Point:Even if you are from Aberdeen, you might not know where we are. For the tour, we will meet at our access point at the end of Polmuir Avenue (which is just to the left as you approach the Duthie Park gates on Polmuir Road). Getting There: The site is only 15 minutes walk from the city centre. It is also served by numerous bus routes. If you plan on coming by car, free parking is available in Duthie Park, accessed on the Riverside Drive entrance.
