Banksy: Artist or Activist?
With Katy Bauer, Will Simpson, Marc Leverton and Richard Jones
Sat 14 May 2016, 14:30
Studio 2, M Shed, Bristol

Free, but booking required.

To launch the 4th edition of Banksy’s Bristol: Home Sweet Home by Steve Wright and Richard Jones, Tangent Books has assembled a panel of Banksy authors to discuss whether Banksy has a social responsibility to do more to support the causes he highlights in his art.

Through his art Banksy has focussed the world’s attention on political issues such as the plight of the Palestinian people in Gaza, violence against refugees in French camps, the detainment without charge of suspects at Guantanamo Bay and much more. His Dismaland ‘Bemusement Park’ in Weston-super-Mare in 2015 was said to be the base for a subvertising blitz against the London Arms Fair.

Does Banksy’s responsibility as an artist stop at publicising these causes or, as an activist, does he have a duty to do more to support them?

In association with Tangent Books and M Shed.

We have restricted the number of tickets that can be booked to one per transaction. This has been introduced in an effort to stop people automatically booking multiple tickets without confirming if they have guests to go with them. We hope this will help to limit the number of 'no shows' at the events, which currently run at around 35% of bookings. We will monitor the situation. If you need more than one ticket, you can click on the booking link again. The little extra effort involved will hopefully put off those who don’t really need more than one, but not those who do.

Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time to take your seat. We will admit anyone waiting without a ticket in to any empty seats a few minutes before the start of the event. Events start punctually and, out of consideration to other audience members and speakers, our policy is not to admit or issue refunds to latecomers.

Please ensure you use the correct email address. This is where your ticket will be sent. If you do not provide the correct address, you will not receive the acknowledgement email or ticket.
