Event description

Description

ICE is delighted to be welcoming Rita Tushingham back to Edge Hill University.

Born and raised in Liverpool, with a professional debut at the Liverpool Playhouse in 1960, Rita Tushingham became the first significant female face of the British New Wave in cinema. The early ’60’s British films pulsed with northern working class talent, in front of and behind the screen, introducing a generation of non metropolitan and charismatic performers such as Albert Finney (‘Saturday Night and Sunday Morning’,1960), Rita Tushingham (‘A Taste of Honey’,1961), Tom Courtenay (‘The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner’,1962), Richard Harris (‘This Sporting Life’,1963) inter alia.

The iconic Liverpool screen actor, a key performer and face of UK cinema in the ‘60’s, will discuss her films (‘A Taste Of Honey’, ‘The Knack’, ‘Girl With Green Eyes’ etc) and reflect on class, cinema and the north with Professor Roger Shannon, Edge Hill University.

This is a FREE event, open to the public (registration is essential).
