Event description

Description

You are invited to meet the organising team of Learn in NG and the Festival of Learning 2019

We are planning a Festival of Learning that will be held in the Autumn.
The festival will connect all sorts of learning and places where teaching and learning happens - whether that's in colleges, community centres, pubs, shops. churches, sheds, workplaces, gardens...wherever.

The purpose of this evening is to bring together those educators, administrators, teachers, professors, and community members from diverse backgrounds and areas of the county to officially launch the event, provide an opportunity for feedback and exchange of ideas, and encourage involvement in the 'Festival of Learning’.

We will have a guest speaker, Sian Rees, who was involved in leading the work which culminated in Bristol becoming a UNESCO Learning City, and has since spoken about her experience to many cities around the world
Sian Rees was the Director for Bristol Learning City from its in inception in December 2014 until 2016.
Working with City partners from the civic, business, not-for profit and education sectors she created and established a model for the first Learning City in England.
The model included a formal governance structure, a shared plan to drive change and funding to facilitate activity.
Bristol Learning City received the UNESCO international progress award in 2017 one of 16 cities globally to receive this award

The agenda for the evening will be...
Welcome
Guest speaker
Summary of our progress so far
Open discussion with the organising committee
Next steps

The festival has arisen from people getting together to discuss the Cities of Learning report from the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts and Manufactures (RSA) and the possibility of linking Nottingham into the UNESCO Learning Cities network.
All sorts of people want to help make it happen and highlight the places they know that learning takes place whether that's formal courses or just people getting together such as in book or film clubs or to share skills.
So far some of those involved include the University of Nottingham, Workers Education Association, Nottingham Trent University, retired educationalists, community workers, artists, Fellows of the RSA and proprietors of small shops offering workshops.

There will be an opportunity to register your interest on the evening to host your own events during the Festival of Learning

If you are interested and want to find out more, please come along.

This event is being supported by the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts and Manufactures (RSA)

Light refreshments will be available on the evening
