About this event
*** Ticket bookings go live on Wednesday 18th May at 7pm. Due to the popularity of the workshops we can only allow two Festival of Stuff workshop bookings per person across the week. ***
Join artist and ceramicist, Ella West, to experiment with pigmented and inlaid clay. Our workshop will begin with the process of hand-mixing colour into the body of our clay, using oxides and stains. Once done, participants will explore how to shape the coloured clay into plates and bowls using plaster moulds, creating functional tableware pieces. Ella will demonstrate how to laminate and roll the coloured clay bodies to inlay designs onto the surface, as well as the traditional Japanese technique ‘Nerikomi’.
This two-hour workshop aims to be an experimental introduction into the wonders of combining and adapting raw materials. By the end of the session, we will have prepared and draped the clay onto a plaster mould to allow the clay to dry. Participants can then drop by the workshop in the afternoon to cut, remove and finish the works from the mould, making their new creations ready for the kiln.
No experience or skill necessary, all welcome!
This workshop is part of the Festival of Stuff.
