Description

We welcome you to an afternoon of poetry readings and an evening book launch, hosted by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Central Lancashire to celebrate the nationwide Festival of the Humanities. The event will be held in our specially designed café in Livesey house, on the ground floor.

In our afternoon session, we feature poetry readings by Dr David Troupes, who has published two books of poetry with Two Ravens Press, and his poems are published in PN Review, Carcanet New Poetries VI and Magma. His comic strip Buttercup Festival has also appeared regularly in PN Review.

Also, in the afternoon session, reading from and launching her new collection of poetry, Reclamation Song, published by Red River, we feature Jhilmil Breckenridge, poet, writer, activist who works in mental health advocacy, poetry as therapy, creative writing and writing for wellbeing.

David Troupes and Jhilmil Breckenridge event start time: 3.30 estimated end 4.30

And from 6.30 (arrival from 6.00 PM for dricks and nibbles), we feature the launch of Dr Keith Vernon's book on the history of the University of Central Lancashire. The university was stablished in Preston, as the Institution for the Diffusion of Knowledge in 1828 and is celebrating, therefore 190 years of delivering learning in this proud region in the north west of England.

Refreshments provided for both events.
