Dr Nita Forouhi, SortedFood and Dr Giles Yeo will discuss the impact of our relationship with food. A panel discussion chaired by Dr Nick Bampos – University Disability Champion

Dr Nita Forouhi’s research focuses on diet factors and health outcomes (focus on type 2 diabetes prevention). Dr Nita Forouhi leads the MRC Unit’s Nutritional Epidemiology programme which aims to understand the relationship between diet, nutrition and the risk of diabetes, obesity and related disorders. Nita’s research has a particular focus on identifying dietary factors that can elevate or reduce the risk of developing diabetes and in using improved methods to assess diet, including the use of objectively measured nutritional biomarkers.

Nita will discuss sugary beverages and Public Health England work on reformulation to reduce sugar content of foods/drinks and the chancellor’s levy to drinks manufacturers based on sugar content of drinks.

Dr Giles Yeo , a principal research associate and group leader at Cambridge University’s Metabolic Research Labs, investigates the latest diet craze and social media sensation - Clean eating - The Dirty Truth

Earlier this year as documented on a BBC 2 Horizon programme Dr Yeo cooked with Ella Mills, the food writer famed for her Deliciously Ella books, one of the most popular brands associated with clean eating, and examines how far her plant-based cooking is based on science.

SORTEDfood is a global movement of friends who share a passion for food, cooking and laughter. They have developed a completely free online cooking course Now Cook It - designed in partnership with Co-op to help inspire young people to cook.

They are committed to making cooking from scratch interesting and possible in today’s quick paced digital era. Their aim is simply to provide all the tools needed to get people cooking... and that generally involves a lot of talking, and a lot of food!

They inspire and entertain around food, via their YouTube channel and broadcast four times a week FridgeCam - snack size videos crammed full of new recipe ideas, insights into what's hot in the food world and (on a good day) plenty of laughs. 10am (UK) every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday.
