Description

Local Artist, Designer and Printmaker Pragya Agarwal shares her linocut knowledge with you. Why not have a really ethical and creative Christmas and make your own cards, wrapping paper, tags and decorations! The possibilities are endless.

Why not have a lovely family bonding time or some time just for yourself amongst the busy festive season?

Workshop Details

Join designer and printmaker Pragya Agarwal on this one day Christmas workshop in linocut printmaking. Learn how to print festive cards, wrapping paper and gift tags to give to someone special at the most wonderful time of the year!

Linocut is a relief printing technique where areas of a piece of lino are cut away and the remaining surface of the lino is inked up and printed from. On this workshop you will explore the linocut process, learn to use the cutting tools and experiment with using oil based inks to create your own edition of greeting cards or gift tags to take home. You will have the opportunity to choose whether you'd like to print cards or wrapping paper and gift tags at the start of the workshop.

Pragya will give a basic outline of how a linocut print is made including cutting the block, rolling the ink, inking the block, taking impressions and making a limited or unlimited edition series or simple one-offs. You'll have a chance to try cutting and printing your own images with various types of lino, and Pragya has some pre-cut blocks and stamps for those who don’t fancy using cutting tools!

We will make some simple single-colour images, and if there is time we may be able to do two colour ones.

All materials will be provided for the workshop including Lino, cutting tools, rollers, inks, a burnishing tool, teaspoons (for pressing) and paper, although if anyone has tools at home they are welcome to bring them.

She'll bring some of her own work to demonstrate the various effects that can be created with Lino. There will be no need for a press and you will be surprised at how much can be achieved with a humble teaspoon. (Most of Pragya's prints have been taken with a burnishing tool and a teaspoon at her studio desk! You can do a lot without a press.) It is also possible to use various types of paper, not just specialist printmaking paper.

Everyone will be welcome to take their work away, of course.

The workshop is suitable for complete beginners as linocut is a simple way to introduce you to printmaking. Those with previous experience can also attend and can use the workshop as a way to further their artistic practice and gain tutor advice and guidance.

It will help to bring along some imagery to use as inspiration, which could be a book, image, drawing, printout, photograph etc.

Of course, it doesn't have to be just Christmas themed, you can make any kind of print you like!
