Festive Workshop Series ~ Rigid Heddle Loom Weaving: Bespoke Home Item
Overview
In the spirit of slow craft and intentional design, take a moment over the holiday season to discover weaving on a rigid heddle loom.
I invite you to spend some time over the festive period with the ancient craft of weaving. A remarkably tactile experience, and one which can help you appreciate the history and artistry of textiles in the wider world. Join a small group of beginner weavers as we learn the basics of how woven fabric is made, with the aim of creating a wool table runner by the end of the session.
You’ll arrive to a loom that’s ready for you to get stuck in. Throughout the 4 hour workshop, you’ll have ample time to experiment with colour and technique, and explore questions of how your favourite woven items, from rugs to blankets to scarves, might have been made.
Please note, if you register within 3 days of the event, I may be unable to accommodate specific colour requests (though I'll try!)
I will offer you a choice of several set colour and pattern combinations . You’ll arrive to a pre-warped loom, allowing you to jump right in and create your unqiue item. There will also be an option to purchase your workshop loom (a Lojan Flex Rigid Heddle Loom)if you want to keep at weaving!
Workshop includes:
- Materials costs for a merino wool and silk table runner or similar-sized object, and extra to play. Other fibres available upon request, e.g. cotton, but wool is the most forgiving and enjoyable for a beginner.
- Time to explore samples of woven fabric, showcasing various weave structures, yarn types, and fibres
- A choice to focus on your weaving and create a finished object, or have a more laid-back session guided by discovering the process
- Information on how to wash and finish your weaving at home to a high standard
- Snacks and drinks to keep you cheery!
Please contact me with any disability accommodation requests—I will always do my best to accommodate any requests!
