FF1 | An Introduction to Self-Employment

Registering self-employed can feel like a daunting prospect. In this session, enterprise charity SAMEE will introduce you to what self-employment is, and top self-employment tips from a Deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent (DDN) perspective.

SAMEE, (Support, Assist, Engage, Enable) is an award-winning charity led by people with lived experience of managing a disability whilst developing their careers.

They support people to establish successful businesses and navigate the world of self-employment. Find out more about SAMEE here.

Who is this for?

• DDN screen production creatives who are thinking about registering self employed
• DDN screen production creatives who have recently registered self employed

What will happen?

SAMEE will deliver a short interactive session, which will introduce you to self-employment.

The session will include

• Reasons to become self-employed
• The differences between self-employment and employment
• Self-employment top tips, from a Deaf / disabled and/or neurodivergent (DDN) perspective

Format

• This will be an interactive online workshop
• We may use breakout rooms for small group discussions
• You do not have to join a breakout room if you don't want to
• People can ask questions in the Q&A section
• People can also ask questions by using the raise hand button.

Event Access

• When you book your tickets, you will be asked about any access requirements you have.
• BSL interpretation is available.
• Auto-captions are provided for all sessions.
• You are welcome to join the meeting hosts in person (hybrid) at their Newcastle office.
• If you'd like to be joined by a supporter / PA, they'd be welcome. There is no need to book a second ticket. Just forward the meeting link to them.
• The recording of the event will be available to view afterwards via our webpage: beaconfilms.org.uk/focusforward
