A major new anthology of poetry from Latin American is showcased at this year’s Fiction Fiesta event in partnership between Cardiff University’s School of English, Communication & Philosophy and Wales PEN Cymru, in an event sponsored by the Embassies of Mexico and Argentina and Wales Arts International.
Argentinian and Mexican poets will offer a sample of the work to be found in The Other Tiger: Recent Poetry from Latin America, introduced and with translations by Professor Richard Gwyn, at the free public event on Wednesday 26 October. The new book, published by Seren, has been described by Edith Grossman, renowned translator of Cervantes, Gabriel García Márquez and Mario Vargas Llosa as “A wonderful anthology . . . the translations are beautiful and to the point. This is a book that belongs in every library” and by poet George Szirtes as “a glittering anthology.”
Following a discussion with Professor Gwyn about the origins and selection of the book, the poets Jorge Fondebrider and Marina Serrano (Argentina) and Mexicans Carlos López Beltrán and Alicia García Bergua will give short readings of a range of work in the collection, by both themselves and other contributors. The event forms part of the launch tour of The Other Tiger, which begins on 24th at The Embassy of Argentina in London, and continues to venues in Newcastle and Edinburgh to celebrate One World Week (23rd – 30th October).
