Description

Fidan Hajiyeva, mezzo-soprano, sings Romances

by Azerbaijani composer Adila Huseyn-Zade

Accompanied by Saida Taghi-Zade (piano) and Aleksey Miltikh (cello)

Adila Huseyn-Zade (1916-2005), Honoured Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was the first Azerbaijani woman to gain a professional qualification as a composer. She started her studies at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory in 1942 as a mezzo-soprano in the vocal class of the renowned singer Bulbul. Within a year she had started to compose and moved to the composition class of the famous Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov, also founder of the Conservatory.

Her compositions span a range of vocal miniatures, cantatas for choir and orchestra, symphonic poems and string quartets which have been performed for decades by many of the best-known performers in Azerbaijan.

Our concert includes romances sung in Azerbaijani and Russian by Fidan Hajiyeva, currently Azerbaijan's top opera soloist and People's Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan, together with a Sonatina for Piano and Cello performed by Saida Taghi-Zade and Aleksey Miltikh, Honoured Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
