Description

You are warmly invited to join us for a CSPACE sponsored Research Event and Christmas Lunch that will take place on 19 December.

From 13:00 - 14:30 at Ravensbury 114.

Presenter: Dr. Cath Lambert, Associate Professor of Sociology (University of Warwick) and author of The Live Art of Sociology (Routledge, 2018) will introduce and discuss 'Fierce Pedagogies' as instruments to produce 'dissensual knowledge and subjects'.

Fierce pedagogies pay explicit attention to aesthetics; they are queer, dialogic, dissensual,collaborative;
they manifest as struggle and contribute to new subjective becomings.

In this talk I provide empirical examples of fierce pedagogies in action, drawing on data from ethnographic research with live artists and practice-based research activities.

Through these examples, we can attend to the ways in which aesthetics and knowledge, or the production of a knowing subject, intersect. What can we learn from live art and research practice about this work of production?

Can live practice deploy its aesthetic resources in order to emancipate learners, activate spectators, democratise knowledge production?

And specifically, what is the role of aesthetics, across and beyond artistic and academic endeavours,in the re/production of dissensual knowledges and subjects?
