About this event
SWAN has been working with Paths for All to train our autistic volunteers to become Health Walk leaders and run local walking groups for autistic women and non-binary people.
The SWAN walks offer a supportive and inclusive environment for autistic women and non-binary people. Beyond improving physical wellbeing, these walks provide an opportunity for socialisation and peer support.
Starting at the car park of the Beveridge Park, the walk follows a paved, level loop of roughly 1 mile around the main area of the park, suitable for all abilities. The walk takes in the main attractions of the park, including the boating lake and the memorial fountain, with clear views of trees and parkland. This autism-friendly walk is intended to be taken at a gentle, relaxed pace, offering opportunities to socialise and to enjoy the surrounding scenery. The 30-45 minute route is risk-assessed and returns to the starting point at the park's car park, at which point attendees have the option to join the facilitators for a picnic.
We can't always guarantee good weather so please make sure you dress for the weather conditions on the day

Who is this group for?
SWAN groups are safe spaces for autistic women, both cis and trans, and non-binary people over-18 who live, work or study in the local area.
SWAN is inclusive of all autistic women and non-binary people, including those who are exploring whether they are autistic, who self identify as autistic or are clinically diagnosed (private or NHS).
If these descriptions do not match you, we ask that you do not attend our groups unless they are specifically stated to be for non-autistic individuals. If you are a non-autistic person wishing to learn more about autism, visit our website for workshops and training: swanscotland.org/training
Accessibility
We aim to make our walks and groups as accessible as possible - they are led and designed by autisic people, in accessible venues.
If you have any medical conditions which might affect you when you are at a group, please let the facilitator know at the start of the group so they are aware of what to do should anything happen (e.g. epilepsy, diabetes, etc.).
If there is anything we can do to make the experience more accessible for you please do get in touch with us ahead of the meet up:

The meeting point is the pavement next to the car park area of the Beveridge Park, a large public park in the centre of Kirkcaldy.
Please find a photo below of the meeting start point
It’s accessible by foot, car, or public transport, with a large, green sign clearly visible at the car park entrance.
Frequently asked questions
You can read all our all rules and guidelines here: https://swanscotland.org/uploads/files/SWAN_Places_Rules___Guidelines.pdf
To maintain the group as a space specifically for autistic women and non-binary people over 18, we kindly ask that only those who fit that description attend the meetings. We completely understand, though, if you’d like someone to bring you or pick you up, but we ask if they wait outside the room.
We kindly ask that you book in advance before attending the group. This allows us to accurately record attendance, which is essential for our funding and ensures we can keep providing this space. It’s also important for safeguarding reasons so we can ensure a safe environment for everyone attending.
If you aren’t able to book ahead, you can still sign up on the day using your phone when you arrive at the event. We’ll provide the information you need to book online at that time. However, we do encourage booking in advance whenever possible.
Yes, the group is strictly for people aged 18 and over. We aim to create a space that is supportive and appropriate for adults, so participants must be at least 18 years old to attend.
The walks will be less than an hour long at an easy social pace and are perfect for anyone who would like to become more active in the company of other autistic people.
While our peer social walks and meet-ups offer valuable connection and peer support they are not intended to provide crisis intervention or one-on-one support. Please email our digital volunteers if you need information on support groups that might be suitable. info@swanscotland.org
