Fighting Back Exhibition on attitudes to Domestic Abuse

Join us as we share our findings from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) funded project & meet some of our volunteers & interviewees

At the event, MCd by award-winning author Annika Spalding, you will be able to:

  • Hear from our keynote speaker Paula Harding, Violence Against Women Strategic Lead and Domestic Homicide Review Manager at Birmingham Community Safety Partnership

  • Hear the inaugural reading by Aliyah Hasinah, Activist, Poet, Producer, Writer, of a piece which has been specially commissioned for the project

  • Enjoy some light refreshments



You will also be able to:

  • See a video with excerpts from several of the 50+ interviews we conducted, including with Jess Phillips MP, Birmingham's first Victims Champion and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Domestic Violence

  • Read some of the quotes from a range of interviewees who have been affected by domestic abuse over the last 60 years

  • Learn about our domestic abuse timeline from 1857 (The Rule of Thumb) to the present day

  • Browse some of the materials we have gathered during the project including a unique archive of annual reports from Birmingham Women's Advice and Information Centre 1984-2008

  • Obtain your copy of the Fighting Back project workbook for schools

  • Meet some of the volunteers and interviewees from the project
