What's it about?

You need to be a Creative Suite/InDesign user to get the best out of this course.

This morning session is regularly updated to bring you the latest in file preparation procedures and the settings required to achieve the best printed results.
The course covers the fundamentals in file preparation while exploring more detailed colour management controls and preparation when sending files to press.
This is a half-day event starting at 9.15am with networking, a cuppa, kicks off at 9.45am and finishes with an optional tour of the production facilities at 12.30pm.

  • The Microsoft package - Word Excel PowerPoint to PDF (and Publisher!)
  • Black out of four colour and the 280% rule.
  • Profiles and Bridge
  • Creative Suite to PDF
  • Managing: Crops, Solids (when to use a shiner), Bleeds and quiet borders
  • PDF which type and what version?
  • Pre-Flighting (InDesign and/or Acrobat Professional) setting the parameters
  • File Formats PDF, JDF, VPDF, TIFF, JPEG, EPS, GIF,
  • Bitmap, PSD, AI
  • Digital assets - image resolutions DPI and LPI

  • Keeping file sizes manageable and downsizing.
  • RGB to CMYK
  • Digital work flow
  • Screen rulings. Moiré. High definition. Enhanced definition.
  • Trapping. Metallic inks and tints. Metallic inks and uncoated stock
  • Overprinting with white
  • Imposition and book creep - designing across a spread
  • Creating cutting forms and spot UV areas
  • Design tips: Orphans and widows, Transparencies, Margins, Kerning and ligatures
