Description

Arts Connect are delighted to present a Film and Television Careers Fair for 14-19 year olds hosted by Birmingham City University. This is a free event.

The event will comprise of an Industry Market Place, Introduction to the Industry session, workshops and 1-1 opportunities providing all attendees a chance to meet with Film and Television professionals and find out how you can access the industry. (Please scroll down for full Schedule and Ticketing details before making your booking)

Youll start your time at the fair at either the Market Place or in the key session - An Introduction to the Film and Television Industry led by Into Film. A vital session which outlines job opportunities and roles within the industry. At the Market Place you can meet Film and Television individuals, companies and educators, such as Royal Television Society, Flatpack, Writers Guild West Midlands, Rural Media, Into Film, BFI Academies in addition to make-up artists, production designers, directors and other crafts people (individuals to be announced nearer the date).

Youll be able to attend a workshop to help develop your portfolio and promote your work or find out about industry training and education. Youll then enjoy one of our hands on workshops: How to make broadcast content on your phones or How to write for screen.

There are also limited 1-1 sessions available with workshop/industry leaders.

The event is open to any young person aged 14-19 years old. You do not need to be in education to attend. School groups are welcome and multiple tickets can be selected at the same time. Please note, if you book a ticket and are no longer able to attend you must email Arts Connect so your ticket can be reallocated.

The day is structured into morning (for schools only) and afternoon sessions (for anyone). Youll need to book a ticket for the arrival time which suits you and youll be placed into a group to help navigate your way around the event (Please refer to tickets and schedule below to help plan your time).


WORKSHOPS

Attendees will choose between A&B and C&D. *

*Workshops are a first come first served basis. Once the spaces are taken up, participants will need to head to the alternative workshop being held at that time. You cannot prebook a workshop. There are also limited spaces for 1-1 sessions with the leaders of workshops during workshop times, these will be publicised on the day.

a) Developing your portfolio/showreel - Self promoting

Explore how to develop your portfolio and build a showreel to market yourself and your work. In this workshop youll also look at the benefits of entering Film festivals and Awards.

b) Education and Training

What courses are available? FE/HE, Apprentices, short courses, BFI academies and clubs. Find out where in the region you can I get hands on training.

c) Creating - Mobile phone filming

Using kit you have access to, youll learn how to make the most out of your smart phone to create industry/broadcast work. Find out about the gadgets and gizmos which can boost your smart phones capabilities.

d) Creating - Screenwriting

How to build a good story and create believable dialogue - the foundation of all great Film and Television. Find out about the possibilities and opportunities in writing for Film and Television.

TICKETING AND SCHEDULE

You can book a ticket for any group/start time but must stick to the timings/schedule for that group.

There are a maximum of 35 tickets per a group due to the size of rooms. If booking for a school, please ensure a member of staff will be available to support pupils in the workshops as we cannot guarantee that all pupils from 1 school will be in the same workshop as attendance at these are based on individual choices.

The morning sessions, Group 1 and Group 2 are for School bookings only. Anyone can attend the afternoon slots (incl. Schools) - Group 3 and Group 4 or the Market Place only session.

SCHOOL BOOKINGS - We want to ensure that as many young people from different educational settings get the opportunity to access this event therefore each organisation will be strictly limited to a maximum of 35 tickets.
