Film As Art, Art on Film: Myself
Wed 26 April 2017, 18:00 – 19:30 BST
You are invited to join us to celebrate the launch of Film as Art, Art on Film: Myself, an art exhibition with accompanying films.
Into Film Scotland and the National Galleries of Scotland have been working together to offer young people the opportunity to create and exhibit digital art. Edinburgh Art and Media teachers were invited to engage their learners (aged 14-19) with Into Film’s educational resource Film as Art, Art on Film over the school year working towards this exhibition.
Students have been encouraged to explore self-expression with the toolkits contained within the resource, as well as the collections found at the National Galleries of Scotland. A visit to The Modern Portrait exhibition, currently on display at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, inspired students to analyse how other artists have approached the theme of self-image and create their own responses in film, photography and mixed media.
Six young artists/filmmakers have produced a series of 2D works that culminate in final or developmental film pieces. Each artist has approached the subject in a unique way showing a variety of styles and approaches to the theme of MYSELF.
This launch event will showcase and celebrate the work and achievements of the participating young people at an opening ceremony.
Refreshments will be served following the showcase.
We recommend using the entrance just off Princes Street Gardens.
