***As of 10am on Saturday 3 December we are closing Eventbrite registrations. All advance free tickets have now be taken but we will have at least 20 tickets per session available on the day on a first come first serve basis. We have more space if you don't mind standing. We will make every effort to accomodate everyone that comes to attend any of the sessions.***

Celebrating the Resistances in Argentina - Short documentaries human rights struggles and campaigns against neoliberalism and extractivism.

The recently re-founded Argentina Solidarity Campaign presents a series of short documentaries and debate, celebrating recent resistances against neoliberalism and extractivism and supporting human rights in Argentina under Mauricio Macri’s presidency. This includes the protests against the Tarifazo (utility bill hikes), university student protests against funding cuts, indigenous peoples’ defence of their natural habitats and the environment against Monsanto and other multinationals, trade union strikes against public sector redundancies and pay cuts, the arrest of Milagro Sala, leader of the Tupac Amaru neighborhood association, the Ni Una Menos protests against femicide and domestic violence and more.

We will also have our friends from Sounds and Colours intrducing their new book on Argentina and a short documentary clip on how hip hop culture in Argentina interacts with the wider politics of the country. The book will be on sale at the event.

Documentaries are in Spanish with English subtitles.

** 2.15pm-3.15pm

We will have an update on state of play of Colombia’s peace process from Myriam Ojeda Patiño (International Agenda of Citizens' Initiatives for Peace) and an exclusive clip from a forthcoming Alborada Films documentary Truce by Teilo Vellacott and Pablo Navarrete, about Colombian women guerrilla peace negotiators in Havana, Cuba. We also have Katie de Kauwe, a lawyer and member of the human rights charity the Colombian Caravana, who will speak about the charity's August 2016 delegation to Colombia and the ongoing violence and threats that lawyers and other human rights defenders face in the country in the context of the peace process. **3.30pm-5.15pm

This session focuses on the contemporary sounds of Caracas, Venezuela with a film screening of ‘Son de la Zona’ and talk by Desorden Publico’s guitarist Magu Vagabundo, who will also be performing and DJing later in the evening. (Chaired by Stephanie Kennedy, Alborada magazine contributing editor)

**5.30pm-7.30pm

This session focuses on recent political developments in Brazil following the parliamentary coup that ousted President Dilma Rousseff (Chaired by Gabriela De Oliveira, Alborada magazine contributing editor)

Short films (to be announced shortly) + speakers: Dr Francisco Dominguez (senior lecturer at Middlesex University, where he is head of the Centre for Brazilian and Latin American Studies) + Brazilian activists Victor Fraga (Momentum Latino) + Nara Filippon (Democracy for Brasil - UK)
