This film is a first-hand account of the popular resistance movement in Bil’in, a West Bank village affected by the Israeli West Bank barrier.

Story line: When his fourth son, Gibreel, is born, Emad, a Palestinian villager, gets his first camera. In his village, Bil'in, a separation barrier is being built and the villagers start to resist this decision. For more than five years, Emad films the struggle, which is led by two of his best friends, alongside filming how Gibreel grows. Very soon it affects his family and his own life. Daily arrests and night raids scare his family; his friends, brothers and himself are either shot or arrested. One camera after another is shot at or smashed. Each of the 5 cameras tells part of his story.

Speaker Biographies

Derek Newton

Since retiring from the School of Education at Huddersfield University, Derek has worked extensively with schools in the Annapurna region of Nepal. As well as teaching English, he has helped to set up kindergarten provision in a number of schools and worked with local teachers on uses of information technology in education. Derek has published an online guide to walks in the region. Derek has published a number of articles on widening access to education. Having worked for Huddersfield University in Beijing and Guangzhou, he has published about environmental sustainability education in China. He maintains a strong interest in Chinese culture and has recently published a blog about iconography in Chinese Buddhism. Derek taught a number of MA programmes in Jordan and has spent time in Palestine. He is a founder member of the Highland - Palestine Network and the Highland Palestine Film festival.

Mohammad Abu Srour

Mohammad is a Palestinian lawyer and entrepreneur from Aida Refugee camp.

He has a background in Legal research from BADIL Resource center for Palestinian residency and refugee rights and is co-founder of the social enterprise Volunteer Palestine. Volunteer Palestine, an organisation committed not only to creating economic, but also social and environmental value. He has had an essential role as a connector in his community, actively recombining public and private resources to find creative methods to handle deeply rooted social problems and cultivate sustainable community development. Mohammad coordinated projects for Aida Youth Cultural Center for three years and is now an elected representative for the Aida Popular Committee, the local decision-making organ, and in charge of the project unit.
