Do you love films? Are you interested in bringing the world's best moving images to audiences? Would you like to hear about some of the ways in which you could use your passion to build a career?
Graduates of our Film Studies, Programming and Curation MFA (run in partnership with the BFI), work in a wide range of roles in film festivals, cinemas, online platforms, archives, blu-ray publishers and distribution companies. This conversation between MUBI’s Emily Wright (Senior Programming Manager, Global) , and NFTS Course Leader and festival consultant Sandra Hebron will explore the practicalities, pleasures and challenges of working in this dynamic cultural field.
Emily Wright is a seasoned programming manager in the film industry, currently serving as the Global Programming Manager at MUBI since May 2022. Emily's earlier experience includes roles such as Programme Advisor for the Op, where she has worked since 2022. Emily's earlier experience includes roles such as Programme Advisor for the Open City Documentary Festival and Programmer on the Selection Committee for Porto/Post/Doc. Emily has curated film showcases, worked with the British Film Institute during the London Film Festival, and reported on social issues as a multimedia journalist. Emily holds a Master’s degree in Film Studies, Programming and Curation from the National Film and Television School and a Bachelor’s degree in English and Italian Literature from the University of Warwick.
Sandra has had a long career in independent cinema and festival management and curation in the UK, Europe and East Asia, including as BFI Head of Festivals, where she was Artistic Director of the London Film Festival (2003-2011). She is an experienced event host and moderator, and alongside her NFTS role, currently works with a wide range of distribution companies and streaming platforms supporting their Awards activities. Her qualifications include a BA (Hons) in Communication Studies, an M.Phil in Cultural studies, and post-graduate qualifications in Psychoanalytic and Integrative Psychotherapy.
